City of Albany activates Operation Safe Place to offer cooling stations
Heat Advisory is in effect from 11 am-8 pm Friday!
ALBANY, Ga. – On Thursday, July 20, the City of Albany, with the assistance of Dougherty County, will activate Operation Safe Place to give people a place to cool off during the day.
According to current weather reports, the heat index will reach dangerous temperatures, and the City and County would like to offer shelter from the heat to those who need it.
Below is a list of locations that will be available to anyone needing a break from the heat on Saturday and the times they will be open. Water will be provided at each location.

• Friday: 11 a.m. – 8 p.m.
• Henderson Gym
o Address: 701 Willard Avenue
o Hours of Operation:
• Thursday and Friday 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.
• The Albany Transportation Center
o Address: 300 W. Oglethorpe Boulevard
o Hours of Operation
• Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
The Dougherty County Public Library Central Branch in Downtown
o Address: 300 Pine Avenue
o Hours of Operation
• Thursday and Friday: 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
• The Northwest Library Branch

CBS 44 Meteorologist Matthew Crumley says a Heat Advisory is in effect for all of Southwest Georgia on Friday from 11 am to 8 pm. Temperatures in the upper 90s. Heat index “feels-like” could approach 111+ Fri. PM. Practice heat safety, stay hydrated, stay cool in the A/C if you can, and make sure to look before you lock by checking the backseat!
