CBS 44 Weather Authority Forecast: May 10, 2023
Torrential downpours, isolated strong-severe t'storms possible Thursday
Today, May 10, 2023 was the hottest day of the year so far at 92° in Albany at the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport. This surpasses yesterday’s high of 90°. We saw mainly sunny skies for most of the day which allowed temperatures to heat up out there. Tomorrow we’ll top off a touch cooler in the afternoon, but a few spots may reach 90° before showers and thunderstorms develop. We did not see much activity today, because winds were relatively light of an east-northeasterly, slightly drier component behind the backdoor frontal boundary. However, tomorrow’s winds shift from the east-southeast in the morning more towards a southerly, or even southwesterly direction and that will usher in the Gulf coast sea breeze by late afternoon into the early evening, and will have a better opportunity to interact with what’s left of the old backdoor frontal boundary. Storm motions will be slow, so torrential downpours and localized flash flooding cannot be ruled out. Isolated, pulse variety strong-severe storms will be possible with gusty to damaging wind and possibly hail. Not as high coverage of activity for Friday. Drier, hotter weather takes over for Mother’s Day weekend with widespread low to possibly mid 90’s. The typical summer-like pattern returns early next week.
