CBS 44 Weather Authority Forecast: June 1, 2023

T.D. # 2 forms in the Gulf of Mexico, but no threat to land

Today, June 1 is the first day of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season. Right on schedule, the disturbance forecasters have been watching for days is now Tropical Depression # 2 in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. It’s expected to remain offshore and be short-lived. It may barely reach Tropical Storm intensity before weakening and turning post-tropical over the southern Gulf. It’s number two, because it was determined in post-analysis that a subtropical system formed back in January, but it did not receive a name. If this system gets one it will be named Arlene. We’re still dealing with breezy conditions from gradient winds tied to the low pressure to the south and high pressure to the north. Partly cloudy skies Friday with still a slim chance showers. Warming up this weekend, but still near average in the upper 80s-around 90. Even hotter next week in the lower 90s.
