CBS 44 Weather Authority Forecast: August 24, 2023

Hottest of the year this weekend! Near record heat possible! Records are 104° & 103° set in the year 1938 for Saturday and Sunday respectively.

I called it back on August 14th, a “flash drought” for SWGA. While a few areas have seen some rain since then, most have missed out totally, & abnormally dry conditions have developed. 9 day dry stretch for Albany, GA. Last appreciable rainfall: August 15 at 0.97″. The good news is better rain chances returns next week. 1″-2″ of rainfall possible from both approaching frontal system and/or at least increased moisture from a possible tropical system.

Tropics: Chance of tropical development has increased over the next 7 days. A broad low pressure system over Central America will move over the northwestern Caribbean Sea, then into the southern Gulf of Mexico. This possible system is more of a Yucatan Mexico, western Cuba, FL Straits, even western FL Peninsula problem right now. Still lots of uncertainty, but worth watching closely in the coming days!
