Candlelight vigil ceremony honors life of Commissioner Demetrius Young
ALBANY, Ga. – In Albany, the community came together to honor the life of Commissioner Demetrius Young with a candlelight vigil.
Young, who served as the Ward 6 Commissioner in Dougherty county, was celebrated through heartfelt stories and reflections from those who remembered him as “One of a Kind.”
The event wrapped up with a candlelit ceremony and the release of lanterns into the sky, offering a final send-off.
The loss of Commissioner Young has left a lasting impact on the community, and his absence is deeply felt by those who knew him.
“Well of course, Commissioner Young was reelected without opposition in 2023. Had, he not passed at such a young age, he probably would have had a very lengthy career in, local and maybe even state politics. And, it is very unfortunate that we have lost, a public servant and suddenly, we are at a loss because it was so unexpected,” Mayor Bo Dorough, City of Albany.
His memory will remain a guiding light for the community he served.
