Atlanta Police Dept. recruits Albany residents to join the force
ALBANY, Ga. – The Atlanta Police Department (APD) makes a pit stop in Albany to recruit residents who have dreams of swapping out their daily routine for a badge and a beat.
The Atlanta P.D. isn’t waiting for applicants to come to them – they-re bringing the opportunity straight to Albany.
“Great things come from little places. And, honestly, my dad’s from Albany, my mom’s from Cordele. So, it’s a chance for us to tap into the talent of Albany and the surrounding areas. And, I think Albany can bring a different touch to the City of Atlanta. And, we’re neighbors, so why not come down here? We got Albany State University (ASU), all the wonderful people down here. I spent the summers down here, so I understand who is here,” said Lt. Courtney Murphy, said Atlanta P.D.
Lieutenant Courtney Murphy with the Atlanta Police Department outlines the available positions and the qualifications required for applicants.
“So, we have several positions available with the City of Atlanta. But, our purpose right now, today, we’re looking for police officers. We’re looking for candidates that are qualified and ready to be assets to the community to serve the citizens of Atlanta. So, some of the things we’re looking for are just, first off, a good heart, a positive attitude. APD is really a family and we’re looking to bring people in to join that family. You need to be at least 20 when you start the Academy, but 21 by the time you get out of the Academy. You have to have a high school diploma, be a citizen of the united states, good background, and just with a good attitude and ready to start,” said Lt. Murphy.
The Atlanta Police Department will be in Albany throughout the weekend, offering interested applicants the opportunity to explore career opportunities with the force.
“You can go to joinatlantapd.org and that’s the best way. Or, you could just come to us, and see me and see my team. We’ll be here until Sunday and we’re running it from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every day,” said Lt. Murphy.
