Arrest made, person of interest at large in Lipsey Drive homicide

ALBANY, Ga. – At approximately 12:19 p.m. on Monday, officers responded to a shooting in the 400 block of Lipsey Drive. They found 40-year-old Charles Shavers Jr. with a gunshot wound to the chest. Shavers sadly succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The Albany Police Department Criminal Investigative Bureau identified 17-year-old Damontae D. Johnson as a suspect in the homicide. Johnson was apprehended during a search warrant execution at his residence and charged with murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was transported to the Dougherty County Jail.

Investigators are also searching for 27-year-old Dekardre Adonis Barkley as a person of interest in this homicide. Barkley has two outstanding warrants from a previous case.
