APD reminds citizens of safety tips while shopping during holiday season
ALBANY, Ga. – The holiday season is about to kick off and the Albany Police Department has a few pointers for those shopping and hitting the roads.
Police Chief Michael Persley says that most people should be on the look out if they’re out shopping for those big ticket gifts.
“Things you need to consider before you leave the store. Make sure all your valuables are secured in something; in your wallet, purse or you know what you may have on you. So, when you’re walking out of the store, only thing you have is the buggy or the bags and you’re looking around…” said Chief Michael Persley.
But… it isn’t just going out and buying gifts that people need to be a little more cautious about.
As the start of the holiday season means the return of another potential crime of opportunity…Porch Pirates.
“And, when your packages arrive, please don’t let your packages sit out longer than they have to. Maybe if you could if your packages are delivered, maybe they can be delivered to a location that you know someone will secure or try to be at home when your packages do arrive,” said Chief Persley.
And… while it may seem like the right thing to help people out this holiday season, the Albany Police is reminding people that that isn’t always the case.
“People will walk up to you in the parking lots and not know you have a car hard and you want to be generous during this time of the year. But, not everyone has good intentions,” said Chief Persley.
Chief Persley also touches on potentially keeping your credit and debit cards safe form potential thieves as well.
“This is the worst time of the year to have to cancel your debit and credit cards because they have been compromised. So, please sir, please ma’am, take care of those,” said Chief Persley.
And… Chief Persley says that its important you stay vigilant whether you’re out shopping or waiting for something to be delivered to your front door step.
And… Chief Persley also says the Albany Police Department will be putting out reminders throughout the holiday season.
