APD officers make arrest for a Moultrie child molestation case
ALBANY, Ga. – On March 25, 2024, The Albany Police Department’s Family Protections Unit received notification of a Child Molestation case from officers in Moultrie, GA. Moultrie officials handled the initial outcry and it was transferred to the Albany Police Department for further investigation.
After a forensic interview was done, the child disclosed that one of her “uncles,” Sterling Maurice Murphy Sr (31), touched her genitals when she was seven or eight years old.
On March 26, 2024, Sterling was transported to The Law Enforcement Center for an interview. During the interview, he confessed to touching the child inappropriately, and to having sexual communication (to include sending explicit images) with the minor on a social media platform. After the interview, Sterling was transported to The Dougherty County Jail on the charges of Rape and Aggravated Child Molestation.
