APD make arrests in 200 block of North Broadway St. homicide

ALBANY, Ga. – U.S. Marshals have made a significant arrest as they successfully located and apprehended a suspect linked to a homicide investigation in Albany.

On Wednesday, 25-year-old Tommy Charles Stewart III was apprehended at a residence in the 1500 block of Georgia Avenue. Stewart was taken into custody due to multiple outstanding warrants against him. One of these warrants implicated him in the shooting death of 32-year-old Semario Watkins that transpired earlier this year on June 10th, in the 200 block of North Broadway Street.

Stewart was transported to the Dougherty County Jail where he faces a slew of charges including murder, aggravated assault, armed robbery involving a firearm, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Additionally, 29-year-old Samquithera Tyshon Gaines was also transported to the Dougherty County Jail, but on a distinct charge of hindering apprehension or punishment of a criminal.

Following Stewart’s apprehension, a search warrant was executed at the residence, leading to the recovery of two firearms. Law enforcement officials are actively investigating whether these firearms can be linked to other cases within the city, and as such, further charges may be forthcoming.
