APD: ‘Elevated crime level’ leads multi-agency two-day Crime Suppression Operation

ALBANY, Ga. – The Albany Police Department (APD) with the help of other agencies has been cracking down on what they’re calling an “Elevated crime level.”

CBS 44’s Brian Roche has more.

Law enforcement agencies across Dougherty County have wrapped up an operation geared towards crimes that were taking place overnight…

As well as areas law enforcement considered as having “Recent elevated crime rates.”

“As a result of this, numerous traffic stops were conducted, which resulted in 160 citations issued, 186 warnings, citations issued, 18 arrests for dui and three arrests for suspended license. In total 33 arrests were made, including 11 persons who had active warrants for their arrest,” said Chief Michael Persley, Albany Police Dept.

The operation was geared towards enhancing public safety.

And… over that two day period, law enforcement had their hands full.

“The Albany Police Department (APD) in partnership with the Georgia State Patrol (GSP), the Albany-Dougherty Special Investigative Unit (SIU), the DA, the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), and the Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC) undertook a comprehensive two-day traffic enforcement and crime suppression operation. This was in light of recent activity that had been occurring the past couple of weeks during the nighttime hours,” said Chief Persley.

For now, law enforcement will continue these collaborative crackdowns as needed.
