Ameris Bank Presents Check to Phoebe Worth Medical Center

SYLVESTER, GA – Earlier today, Ameris Bank presented a check to the Phoebe Worth Medical Center…

“Rural healthcare is very much a need and there’s deficiencies in certain areas. And, anything that we can do to grow that in the communities that we serve and have branches in, we want to do so,” said Chris Misamore, Market President, Ameris Bank Albany.

This 75 thousand dollar check is a portion of the more than 2 millions dollars Ameris has donated to 15 rural hospitals across Georgia through the Georgia HEART Hospital Program in 2023.

The Georgia HEART Hospital Program partners with the Georgia Rural Hospital Tax Credit bill (State Bill 258) to increase funding to rural and critical access hospitals in the state of Georgia.

Each hospital can use the funds donated by Ameris Bank to meet its individual needs.

“We’re what they actually call a critical access hospital, and that’s a designation under the federal government. So, we’re reimbursed differently, and we’re reimbursed on what is cost us to treat patients so really our goal is to break even. So, there’s a fine margin there especially with all the differences with the payers, and we have a high Medicare and Medicaid population here in the county so it’s vitally important,” said Kim Gilman, CEO Phoebe Worth Medical Center.

A portion of the funds will go to transit systems like this Phoebe van that is used to allocate and adhere to the needs of patients with disabilities.

Additionally, funds will be used to fund their current emergency room expansion project, upkeep the facility, patient rooms, and improve their technologies such as CT scanners and MRI’s, which are crucial for their hospital.

“Patients would have to go to either to Albany, Cordele, Tifton or Moultrie to get those things done, and now they can come here. We take pride in being high tech, but it’s very vital for this community for people to be able to have care and outpatient care as well,” said Gilman.
