Americus spreads holiday cheer with annual Christmas parade

AMERICUS, Ga. – Keeping up with the festive spirit, let’s head over to Sumter county as the community kicked off the holiday season last night.

The city of Americus celebrated with its downtown Christmas parade.

Nearly 70 floats from local churches, businesses, schools, and first responders rolled through, honoring the people who make up Sumter county.

We spoke with a few attendees about what makes celebrating the holidays in Americus special.

“This is my fourth year at GSW, my fourth parade, and it’s just really awesome to spend it with my family and my friends. And, it’s just a really great environment to be downtown with them,” said Henderson Hurdle, GSW softball.

“Really just shows you what type of environment Americus is; like the family home-grown. And, then I feel safe here. I can’t speak for them, but I know that we just love having people that support us,” said Simone Gillespie, GSW softball

You can catch the full parade in Americus on Christmas day on WSST-TV.
