Bridging the gap in the community - Bell Street Park

AMERICUS, Ga. – The South Georgia blazing heat wouldn’t stop the Americus Police Department from hosting a community day to bridge the gap between officer and civilian.

“We’re coming into the neighborhoods, where sometimes people don’t have transportation, so we can get to them, so we came in the neighborhoods where the children are,” said Sergeant Carolina Pittman, Americus PD.

Community events like this show that the police department is always willing to give a helping hand.

“There’s so much happening in the world and I want kids to know that we’re there and it doesn’t matter what they need,” she said.

The benefits to a better relationship with police are endless.

“It helps to promote safety, helps to promote relationships, helps them to know that they are friendly. They’re here to help,” said Julie Scott, parent at event.

The Americus Police Department has more community events in store as well.

“We’re doing a drawing for back to school haircuts or styles so we’re choosing four children to that as well and we’re going to have our annual back to school bash as well,” said Sergeant Carolina Pittman, Americus PD.
