Albany Technical College’s Early College Essentials program offers dual enrollment options for students
ALBANY, Ga. – Albany Technical College (ATC) is paving the way for student success by equipping them with Early College Essentials.
With dynamic presentations and interactive discussions, this initiative is tailored to arm students, educators, and communities with the essential resources and insights vital for thriving in dual enrollment programs.
“So, the Early College Essentials program here at Albany Technical College is an 18 credit hour course that allows high school students to take courses in English, Math, Public Speaking, Sociology, and Biology. And, the great thing about these courses is that they transfer to four year institutions once they graduate from high school and decide to continue their education,” said Tomekia Cooper, Dean of Academic Affairs, Albany Technical College (ATC).
Terrell County High School students received valuable insights during their visit to Albany Tech. Following an enlightening presentation, students were divided into groups and treated to a comprehensive campus tour, acquainting them with the diverse array of educational avenues offered.
Tomekia Cooper, Dean of Academic Affairs at Albany Technical College (ATC), stressed the importance of high school students considering dual enrollment as they navigate their academic futures.
“The dual enrollment program is amazing because it allows students to take college courses while still in high school. Which means they’re able to take them at no cost. So, when they graduate from actual college, they don’t have as much student loan debt, which is a major benefit at this particular point. They can also graduate from college a lot sooner. In addition to that, a lot of times they graduate with a credential from Albany Tech or any school that they choose for dual enrollment before they graduate from high school,” said Cooper.
Tamekia Cooper highlights how the program streamlines the transition for students, easing their journey from high school to college-level coursework.
“I just think this is an amazing program and it really does prepare students for a four year institution. It also prepares them for the workforce as well. So, it’s just an amazing program, and I think that if they have the opportunity they should definitely select dual enrollment,” said Cooper.
