Albany Technical College president gives update on academic year in State of the College address
ALBANY, Ga. – Albany Technical College held their annual State of the College address Wednesday morning. And, after a year that saw tragedy and the start of major changes, they’re gearing up for even more in the next 12 months.
We caught up with current Albany Tech President, Dr. Emmett Griswold shortly after the address to talk about the upcoming year…
“Well it’s important to definitely share the good news. But, also, just to be transparent with the community, letting them know how the college is doing, how it’s performing, how we continue to serve the community. As well as the importance recognizing our faculty and staff and students on the great work they’ve done this year,” said Dr. Emmett Griswold, President, Albany Technical College.
One of the hurdles Dr. Griswold mentioned that Albany Tech is still trying to overcome is the impact that COVID-19 had on the school’s student body numbers in 2020.
He says that while the rebound is slow, they’re picking up momentum.
“We just want to continue to grow. Not only in our student head count, but in our career production area. And, also, providing the services in the workforce and needs for our constituents, our business partners are in need of a workforce, and we are here to supply that workforce for them,” said Dr. Griswold.
But, there’s one other aspect that they want to hold true to going into the new academic year…
Continuing the legacy of previous president, Dr. Anthony Parker who passed away in 2022.
“We know we lost a great leader in Dr. Parker, but we’ve kept his vision alive. And, we’re moving forward with the things he had in place, and also coming up with our own ideas that align with the vision of the community and also the system of technical colleges of Georgia,” said Dr. Griswold.
As Dr. Griswold continues to honor the legacy of his predecessor, Albany Technical College is aiming to continue their rebound well beyond 2024.
Dr. Griswold said during the address that Albany Technical College’s biggest project, the Living and Learning Community with the Phoebe Health System is still on track for its completion in the summer of 2024.
