Albany Recreation & Parks host 2nd Annual Blacktop League Basketball Event
ALBANY, Ga. – Basketball is a team sport that has the power to bring everyone together and the ARPD bring the Albany community together to hosts it’s 2023 Blacktop League.
Albany Recreation & Parks Blacktop League is not only meant to bring the community together, but to also give hoopers the chance to showcase their talent in the Good Life City!
“This is our second year with this event, and pretty much what we wanted to do. Albany, Georgia is known for basketball, and we have a lot of hoopers. But, we want to make sure the hoopers get the opportunity to understand what outdoor sports mean. They have to start outdoor before they can go indoor. So, we wanted to create this opportunity for all the athletes in the Good Life City to come together, youth and adults,” said Steven Belk, Albany Recreation & Parks Director.
Director of Albany Recreation & Parks, Steven Belk, talks about the bigger picture of their Blacktop League.
“Basketball is a skill, but what they get is building character, understanding teamwork, they understand the importance of perseverance and the importance of sticking to something. The most important thing is we’re going to teach them how to be men and how to be women, because building character is what it’s all about. It starts here, sometimes with these types of events you will find the diamond in the rough and you can help mold and mentor that diamond. We help to curtail crime, and how we do it; we keep them off of the streets and we get them on the courts,” said Belk.
