Albany Recreation and Parks holds final fishing rodeo of summer
ALBANY, Ga. – Over the weekend, Albany Parks and Recreation hosted their final fishing rodeo of the summer.
This was the third event in the series, designed to bring the community together for some quality time away from screens.
Participants were allowed to take home up to 10 fish each. For those without fishing rods, there was no need to worry. The county, city, and DNR provided rods and reels, ensuring everyone could join in.
Previous rodeos attracted hundreds of attendees, and this event was no exception. Some arrived an hour early, and within two hours, 110 people were present.
Velvet Poole, Community Events Superintendent, shared insights about the event and emphasized its role in fostering community spirit and quality time together.
“This is our final series of our summer fishing rodeo here at Robert Cross Park. We had community members come out again. Like you see today, we have a great group of people. I think we’ve counted over 100 people already today. It’s just a place to bring families together. We have great aunts and nieces and nephews and grandparents, and even great grandmama with a grandson. So great opportunity for all our community to come out and just have a nice day this year. The main part is about bringing families together. They’re taking away their social media, the Facebook page. They’re not picking up their phone. They’re actually just enjoying one another, ” said Velvet Poole, Community Events Superintendent.
Be on the lookout for the next event hosted by the Albany Parks and Rec, as the next one is flag football for adult women happening on August 31st.
