Albany Girl Scout DreamLab a first of it’s kind turns dreams into reality

ALBANY, Ga. – You may know the Girl Scouts for their delicious and famous cookies. But their mission goes far beyond sweet treats.

The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia recently celebrated the grand opening of their DreamLab facility in October, located inside the Walmart Supercenter on Ledo Road in Albany.

This is the first-ever Girl Scout DreamLab to be integrated within a retail setting, offering a convenient and accessible space for young leaders to grow and thrive.

“Our mission here at Girl Scouts is to build girls who are courageous, who have character and confidence. And, here at the Girl Scout DreamLab, girls are able to come in and participate in different programs that help to build those characters, that help them to build the confidence that they need to be successful in all areas of life,” said Cullena Mays, Manager, Girl Scout DreamLab .

The state-of-the-art DreamLab offers an innovative space where Girl Scouts can participate in hands-on activities that focus on STEM, entrepreneurship, life skills, and outdoor adventures, all designed to inspire and empower the next generation of leaders.

“We want our girls to feel like they are capable of being competitive. We do know that the world is a very competitive place. And, so, here at the DreamLab, we do allow girls to come in and try different things that they may not have an opportunity outside of this space to try to participate in. And, we want to encourage them to find things that interest them. And that’s what we try to do here at the dream lab,” said Mays.

The Girl Scout DreamLab features a hands-on STEM center, a podcast booth, a Girl Scout boutique, meeting spaces for troops and groups, and a dedicated staff to support Girl Scouts, their families, and volunteers.

Ivory Price, a Girl Scout member for four years, shares her experience.

“I was introduced into Girl Scouts by my mom because she works in the council, and she was also a Girl Scout. It teaches you marketing skills when you are selling cookies. One activity that I liked was archery. I had to get the hang of it and I learned perseverance from it,” said Ivory Price, Girl Scout member.

Serving girls from Kindergarten through their Senior year of high school, the Girl Scouts are there every step of the way, helping each member grow with confidence and turn their dreams into reality.

“We are an organization who embraces all girls and we encourage all girls to come and visit us and try some things that they’ve never tried before. You never know what they may find of interest to them. And, then we will help them along the way to foster their interest in those areas,” said Mays.
