Albany-Dougherty Kiwanis Foundation annual golf tournament fundraiser makes a swing for education
ALBANY, Ga. – The Kiwanis Club of Albany-Dougherty County makes a swing for education with its annual golf tournament.
This golf tournament emphasizes fundraising for local students, offering not only a day of friendly competition but also the promise of significantly impacting the academic future of Albany’s youth.
“What we want to do is raise money. All fundraisers that we do for the foundation is for scholarships for seniors. Every year we give out between five and $8,000 of scholarship money to seniors who are headed off to college. We have certain criteria that we use. Mostly, is there community service. The second is going to be needs, and then grades, and extracurriculars. We try to get several well rounded seniors, to make sure that they get some financial help to let them go to college and to, you know, to improve their life,” said Doug Lorber, Albany-Dougherty Kiwanis Foundation.
Kiwanis, a global volunteer service organization, is dedicated to hands-on efforts aimed at enhancing the well-being of communities worldwide.
Doug Lorber, a member of the Albany-Dougherty Kiwanis Foundation, emphasizes the organization’s key objective of prioritizing the welfare of children on a global scale.
“Our main goal is to help children. Our Dougherty County Kiwanis Club merged with the Albany Club, and the Dougherty Club is a little over 60 years old, but the Albany Club is over 100 years old, so this club has been around since the 1920s. And, it started out as just networking, but then it became more everyone realized, you know, we need to help the future of the world. The International President is in our club. So, she gets to travel all over the world to help kids everywhere. We do our little part here in Albany and Dougherty county. We’re just so thankful for the community that has come out here to support us and to support the children of Albany-Dougherty county,” said Lorber.
