Albany city worker dies, another injured in on-the-job accident after sewer collapse
ALBANY, Ga. – On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, City of Albany employees were working on a collapsed sewer at N. Harding Street and Society Avenue. While working, there was an accident involving two of the workers. One of the workers was taken to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital to receive treatment for injuries. However, the second employee did not survive.
The City will be investigating this unfortunate tragedy to determine the cause of this injury to one and the loss of life of the other.
“The City of Albany is a large family, and we pride ourselves on being here for one another so we are asking citizens and the media to give us time to grieve the loss of one of our own.
We will have more to provide the families and the public at a later time as we seek answers.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those involved.”
Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler identifies the victim as Sebastian Dykes Jr.
