Albany celebrates Black Business Month
ALBANY, Ga. – The city of Albany is paying their respects to many of the doctors who have served the people of the Good Life City for years.
Whether it was dentistry or pediatric care, the city honored some of the doctors who devoted their lives to serving the city.
“My service has been from my heart and I’m honored to be of service to my community,” said Dr. Sandra Cheevers, Pediatrician.
“And, the fact that people realize that you doing something and you’ve made a contribution and it really means a lot for the work that we’ve put in for that work to be recognized,” said Dr. Ronnie Arrington, General Dentistry.
Albany and Dougherty county leadership wanted to honor black doctors across the city for their years of service.
And… for the doctors we spoke to, the recognition is nice, but it’s clearly not why they went into this line of work.
“Kids whom I have helped through the years come up to me and give me a hug and their parents telling me how they appreciate the service that I have rendered. And, it really touches my heart. And, this is the nearest and dearest thing to me in terms of my service,” said Dr. Cheevers.
“It’s an honor when they run up to you to hug and say thank you for the child you delivered for me 44 years ago. And, of course, naturally, I said, ‘Well, how is that child doing?’ I have an interest that the child is doing well,” said Dr. Willie Adams, OBGYN.
“And, they’ll say, well, this is my granddaughter. And, you know, you took care of my daughter and you took care of me when I was a child. So, you know, I’ve seen three, sometimes four generations of people and still going. And, so, that that’s what it was all about. And, that’s why we do it,” said Dr. Arrington.
But… while the recognition is nice, these doctors are more than happy following their calling and serving their community.
This is the third year that the city of Albany has honored doctors during Black Business Month.
