Albany AT&T celebrates fiber internet expansion
ALBANY, Ga. – The city also took a big step forward when it comes to closing what’s known as the “Digital Divide” this morning.
Local leaders and AT&T of Georgia celebrated a milestone by cutting the ribbon on the expanded availability of high-speed fiber for Albany residents and small businesses.
Mayor Bo Dorough highlighted that since the onset of COVID-19 four years ago, the city of Albany has extended access to over 16,000 homes in the Good Life City.
We spoke with Mayor Dorough about the significance of this expansion and its critical importance in today’s digital age.
“It’s as important as having electricity. That’s the way we connect in business. That’s where our students learn. That is the way we communicate with each other. And what having this excellent service will do for our community will also be important as an economic development too,” said Mayor Bo Dorough.
State Senator Freddie Powell Sims emphasized during the ribbon-cutting ceremony that the objective is to expand high-speed fiber throughout Southwest Georgia.
