Albany Artesian Alliance summer camps
ALBANY, Ga. – Chehaw Park & Zoo transform summer vacation for the youth of Albany.
The Artesian Alliance, comprising of Chehaw Park & Zoo, the Flint RiverQuarium, and the Thronateeska Heritage Center, is offering a wide range of activities for children to enjoy during their summer break.
“We’ll have 11 total weeks of summer camp where we’ll break it up for different age groups so that they can do age specific activities, all based around animals, science and nature. And, then we also have two more sessions of Flint RiverQuarium camps also for children ages 5 through 12. And, you can find those on our website or on our Facebook. We still have several more weeks of camp coming up for both Chehaw and the aquarium. We’re going to be going all the way through August 11th. So we’ve got parents covered all the way up until the very day that school starts,” said Jackie Entz, Director of Education, Albany Artesian Alliance.
Chehaw Park & Zoo and the Flint RiverQuarium camps provide children with a comprehensive educational experience, introducing them to a variety of animals and their natural habitats.
“Well, that’s one of the many things that I really love about summer camp is it’s incredibly engaging and interactive, and it’s for those hands-on learners. So, we are learning by completing activities, we’re walking out nature. I don’t know if you can hear all the bugs around me and we’re hearing some bullfrogs right now because we’re at the alligator boardwalk, but it’s a very immersive educational experience where we really get a chance to dive deep into different species of animals, different habitats, biodiversity, and our environment. So, it’s just absolutely a phenomenal environment,” said Entz.
Jackie Entz, director of Education for the Artesian Alliance, emphasizes that the camps offer valuable educational and interpersonal lessons for children.
“One of the things I love about summer camp is that not only are you getting a great educational experience, but it really lets kids be kids. We get to let loose, let our hair down, get dirty, stomp in puddles. We get a chance to meet children from all different age groups. We also get a chance to meet children that go to different schools. So, it really puts kids in a new and neat social environment where they can not just develop their skills by learning about science, animals and nature, but also a lot of those social skills that we need to learn throughout life,” said Entz.
