Albany Area Primary Health Care to hold 10th annual health fair & 3rd annual drive-thru expo on Saturday
ALBANY, Ga. – Cars will be lining the Exchange Club Fairgrounds Saturday as Albany Area Primary Health Care hosts their 10th annual health fair but the 3rd annual as a drive-thru expo.
Primary Care’s Joycelyne Yates says that while the drive-thru aspect was created out of necessity from COVID, and while no longer a public health emergency, they feel the idea really has stuck with the public.
“Because it is a well oiled machine, it is just the sheer convenience for the participants. We actually each year get feedback from them and it’s literally one-stop shop. And you can get everything you need taken care of from the comfort of your vehicle,” said Joycelyne Yates, Chief Quality Officer, AAPHC.
At Saturday’s health fair, they’ll be providing a number of services to Albany families with checks on blood pressure and vision to name a few…
“At the health fair, we’ll be doing blood pressure, finger sticks, vision screenings, free HIV screenings, and free flu shots for all of our residents, and everything is completely free,” said Yates.
But, regardless of the changes brought on by the COVID emergency, primary care will have the backing of some of Georgia’s major healthcare providers on hand Saturday.
“It’s truly our way as a community health center to give back to our community. And, also it’s a way for us to actually educate the community on different health disparities. So, what makes our health fair so unique is that we have physicians present who can actually go out and help with the screenings…” said Yates.
As primary care sets up at the fairgrounds, they’re expecting hundreds to drive in to get a grasp on their health.
The health expo will take place on Saturday, October 7th from 8 am to 11 am at the Exchange Club Fairgrounds , and is open to the public.
