Albany Area Primary Health Care holds ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate grand opening of Dawson Medical Center

DAWSON, Ga. – Albany Area Primary Health Care launches major expansion of services for Dawson, Georgia.

Albany Area Primary Health Care hosted their ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening for the new Dawson Medical Center.

This establishment is a newly constructed medical facility housing a plethora of medical services all under one convenient roof for the patients.

“We are very excited about bringing these services to the community and into this county. So, we have primary care, which will include adult medicine and pediatric medicine. We also have dentistry, podiatry, optometry, as well as behavioral health. It’s a one stop shop, and so you can get your primary care needs met here. If you have a vision impairment, then you can go right across the hall to the optometrist. If you have dental needs, you can get them right here. So, we really try to eliminate the barriers of transportation for the patient and make it more accessible and easier for them to access care,” said Shelley Spires, AAPHC Chief Executive Officer.

The initial site of the medical center was a small office located on Johnson street. However, over the years, Albany Area Primary Health Care outgrew the space, looking to expand to better serve their patients.

Albany Area Primary Health Care’s Chief Executive Officer, Shelley Spires, talks more about the process and motivations behind this expansion.

“With some of those services, we will be the only provider of those services in this area. So, we are very excited to able to expand to offer those service lines. At the same time, because of the space, we are allowed to have those services more often. We were trying to make it work, piecing it if you will, at our other site. So, we would only have one day a week for certain services, but now we can open it up for the entire week,” said Spires.

“I just wanna say, compassionate care, community connection, continuous improvement. Those are our values at Albany Area Primary Health Care. That’s what we live by, it’s why we are here. Compassionate care, you cannot say compassionate without passion, and that’s what we have at Albany Area Primary Health Care. Passion for what we do,” said J. Edward Vance, M.D., AAPHC Chief Medical Officer.
