ABAC cuts ribbon on new Agricultural Technology Building

TIFTON, Ga. – The Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) cut the ribbon on their new facility Wednesday. One that’s seamlessly blending work on the farm with the classroom.

The Agricultural Technology Building has been in the works for a few years, and ABAC leadership is excited to finally have the facility ready for classroom use.

“We’ve been struggling to find enough dedicated space for some of the equipment that you’ll see in some of these rooms, the simulators. And, we want to start students off on simulators so that they can learn the program, they can learn to adjust,” said Dr. Jerry Baker, Interim Provost, ABAC.

But, it isn’t just the faculty who are excited.

One ABAC student we spoke to can’t wait for classes at the new facility.

“It’s really inspiring to see all the community here in Tifton and then even in Georgia, the United States; of all the industry partners we have, and that’s been awesome to see them support this building and support our program,” said Daniel Durrence, Junior, ABAC.

Even the educators are excited over the new technology building…

As it’s giving more opportunities for a more tactile approach for students.

“So, this space is definitely allows us to take equipment directly off the farm land that is in operation and show how that works and then take it back to the farmland where we can actually have the students out there interact with that equipment where they’ve learned in this space. So, it does break down those barriers of going across the classroom to the actual farm,” said Alex McLemore, Associate Professor, ABAC.

“So, we specifically designed this facility to be hands-on. So, our lecture spaces blend seamlessly in with our lab spaces so that our students can really get hands-on with the equipment and the technology,” said Erin Porter, Associate Professor, ABAC.

With the new facility closer to the farmland than ever, both students and faculty are excited at the new prospects.

The new Agricultural Technology Building will house ABAC’s Crop Production, and Precision Agriculture programs to name a couple.
