A Better Way Grocers set to open to help fight food insecurity

ALBANY, Ga. – An Albany woman is trying to make a difference in the battle against food insecurity in Dougherty county. We got a chance to speak with her about finally having a proper storefront for her cause.

For Tiffany Terrell, it’s been quite a road.

As A Better Way Grocers has come a long way in just over five years.

From a repurposed ice cream truck, to a school bus, and now a permanent address.

“…It was time. We had a lot of demand, people wanted us to have different things. And, you couldn’t do that on a school bus. So, us having a storefront will allow us to carry different products. Allow us to package them a certain way. And, will give people the opportunity to explore different food options,” said Tiffany Terrell, Founder, A Better Way Grocers.

Terrell started a better way with one goal in mind: to help those in low-income neighborhoods get easier access to healthier options…

And… there’s certainly no shortage now.

“…We’ve got fruit bowls. We’ve got acai (berries), we’ve got a dry grains area that’s got black rice, quinoa, so that way we can cater to a variety of people and also educate people around different foods and the nutrition that it provides,” said Terrell.

To look back on helping people out of something as so simple as an old ice cream truck to now, it’s a lot to take in for Tiffany.

“I mean five years ago, thinking about it, being told ‘people didn’t want fresh food’ and transitioning people to have it every week, making sure they’re calling us and telling us, ‘hey, make sure you bring this. Make sure you bring that.’ And, then coming to the storefront, and being able to offer variety and having people come to the store and supporting our mission on the streets,” said Terrell.

And… the future looks very bright for A Better Way.

“Just by the overwhelming response we’ve gotten, I think this will go far. We’ve even had people reach out to us from certain areas, saying, ‘hey, can we get one of those in our community?’ So, the love is real, and I think the support is going to be even greater,” said Terrell.

A Better Way is set to open later on in the month of July, and Tiffany is excited about having a proper location to help educate people to live with a healthier diet.

A Better Way will officially open on July 18th.
