‘I can’t breathe’ mural added to Downtown Albany

ALBANY, Ga – Many cities across America are demonstrating solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement by painting bold statements and Albany is no exception.
Members of the Albany summer camp group, “The X for Boys,” say they felt compelled to paint the mural as a way to support the national movement ignited by the death of George Floyd.
With permission from the business owner, the boys painted the words “I can’t breathe” in white against a black background on the walls of a building in Downtown Albany.
“’I can’t breathe’ is a phrase where it can apply to everybody and anything at any time because it can be a metaphorical phrase,” says summer camp mentor King Randall, “I feel like everyone has a metaphorical knee on their neck and I feel like it’s up to us to let people know we can’t breathe.”
The mural can be seen off of Oglethorpe Alley, next to the Albany Police Department.
