Parks scheduled to reopen

Parks

ALBANY, Ga. – The City will be restarting and reopening recreation sports programming and parks with the following guidelines listed below. The public is strongly encouraged to wear a mask, and City staff will be required to wear a mask.

Sharon D. Subadan, City Manager, stated, “The community’s safety is a top priority, and it was important that we made sure that the decision to reopen parks and recreation facilities would be at the appropriate time. I am thankful for the community support. As we continue to see the decline of COVID-19 cases, we are confident that these facilities could be reopened, and activities resumed.”

Youth Baseball:

Area youth baseball that takes place on the City of Albany fields may resume on Monday, June 15th. At least initially, practices will consist of skill-building activities and conditioning. Guidance has been provided to league leadership, and they have agreed to follow them. Assuming there are no further
issues, competitive play (games) will be allowed to begin on Monday, July 6th. The City will amend our 2020 agreement with each league to include these revised terms.

Gyms & Centers:

All recreational Gyms & Centers will reopen on Monday, June 29th. The number of attendees at each facility will be limited based on activity (free play, camp, classes, etc.). Social distancing will be observed, and each participant will be screened, and temperature checked before entering.

Flint River Municipal Golf Course:

The clubhouse will reopen on Monday, June 29th. Social distancing will still be observed.

Carver Community Pool:

The pool will remain closed for the 2020 season.

“We’re just eager to get our facilities back open so the youth, especially in the area, have somewhere to go and somewhere to recreate and help keep them healthy and give them something to do this summer in a safe environment. But also, we’re gonna follow the CDC guidelines and recommendations and executive orders as well to make sure that we’re providing the safest environment possible,” says Director of Recreation & Parks Joel Holmes.
