Berrien Co. fire crews respond to two separate fire incidents
BERRIEN, Co., Ga. – It was a busy night on the east side of Berrien County as fire crews responded to multiple fire incidents.
The evening began with weekly training sessions at the Nashville and East Berrien fire stations. However, the training was cut short when both departments were dispatched to a structure fire in the East Berrien District.
As crews were clearing that scene and returning to service, East Berrien firefighters were dispatched to a second incident involving a downed power line that ignited a grass fire at the intersection of Highway 76 and Giddens Road.
Engine 52 and Knocker 51 responded initially, while Engine 51 and Tanker 52 remained behind to refill water at a Nashville hydrant. After refilling, those units also responded to assist at the scene.
Firefighters were required to wait for Colquitt EMC to disconnect power to the downed line before safely extinguishing the blaze. Officials remind the public never to approach a downed power line and to always assume it is energized.
