South Georgia Weather Authority Forecast: January 26, 2026

An Extreme Cold Warning is in effect from 9 pm tonight to 11 am Tuesday for dangerously low wind chills as low as 8°. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for wind chills as low as 12°. A Freeze Warning is in effect for a hard freeze with sub-freezing temperatures as low as 18°. Bitterly cold conditions expected the next several nights. Arctic air returns this weekend with hazardous cold temperatures and/or wind chills and possibly a few snow flurries on Saturday.

Impacts… Wind chill values can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Precautionary/Preparedness Actions… Wear protective clothing such as a hat, face mask and heavy gloves or mittens if you have plans to be outdoors.

To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold.
