Thomasville Bicentennial Celebration to mark 200 years with free family-friendly community event January 24

THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Thomasville is preparing to mark a major milestone this year as the city celebrates its 200th birthday. The Bicentennial Celebration officially kicks off with a free, family-friendly community event on Saturday, January 24, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ritz Amphitheater.

The opening celebration will bring together residents and visitors of all ages for a morning of entertainment, history, and hometown pride. Activities include live music from the Emerald Empire Band, food trucks, partner organization booths, children’s activities, interactive photo opportunities, and more.

City leaders say the kickoff event is just the beginning. The bicentennial will be celebrated throughout the year with special programs, exhibits, and community initiatives. One of those is the “200 Challenge,” encouraging individuals, families, schools, and organizations to honor the milestone in creative ways tied to the number 200, from planting 200 flowers to completing 200 acts of service.

“This milestone is an opportunity to honor the people, stories, and traditions that make Thomasville unique, while building excitement and momentum for the future,” said April Norton, Managing Director of Marketing & Communications for the City of Thomasville.

Organizers invite the entire community to attend the kickoff event and take part in the yearlong celebration of Thomasville’s history, culture, and community spirit.
