Lee Co. Sheriff’s Office arrests convicted felon on stolen vehicle and firearm charges and active arrest warrants

LEESBURG, Ga. – On September 17, 2025, at approximately 7:14 p.m., deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the 400 block of US Highway 82 W in reference to a stolen vehicle call.

While en route, Lee County Dispatch advised that the victim’s vehicle, a blue Honda Accord bearing GA Tag CSU1905, had last been seen traveling east on US Highway 82 toward Albany. The vehicle was reported to be operated by the victim’s boyfriend, who was armed with a handgun.

Deputy Hurst positioned himself at the intersection of Hickory Grove Road and US Highway 82 where he observed the vehicle traveling eastbound. A traffic stop was initiated, and the vehicle came to a stop in front of Turner’s Furniture on US Highway 82. The driver, later identified as Artavius STRUM, complied with commands and was taken into custody without incident.

During a safety sweep of the vehicle, deputies located a loaded silver and black Canik TP9 9mm handgun concealed under the driver’s seat. The firearm was secured as evidence.

Further investigation revealed that STRUM had an active arrest warrant out of Dougherty County for probation violation related to charges including possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, tampering with evidence, and theft by receiving. A criminal history check also confirmed STRUM as a convicted felon with prior felony convictions, including trafficking a controlled substance and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

The victim advised deputies that she had been giving STRUM a ride when he became irate, produced a handgun, and threatened violence. In fear for her safety, she contacted 911. STRUM then took possession of her vehicle without permission and fled the scene, prompting the initial call.

Following his arrest, Artavius STRUM was transported to the Lee County Jail where he was charged with:

  • Theft by Taking – Motor Vehicle (OCGA 16-8-2)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (OCGA 16-11-106)
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (OCGA 16-11-131)

The recovered firearm was secured into evidence, and the vehicle was returned to the victim.

“We are proud of Deputy Hurst for his quick response and effective resolution to this incident.”

“As always we encourage anyone engaged in criminal activity to stay out or get out of Lee County.”
