Student taken into custody after gun found inside vehicle on high school campus

TIFTON, Ga. – On Tuesday, September 16th, a gun was found inside a vehicle at Tift County High School (TCHS).

According to Dana Spurlin, Chief of Communications and Community Engagement for Tift County Schools(TCS), one student was taken into custody.

An Anonymous Alert was sent that indicated no threat was made or existed.

This prompted the swift response of TCHS staff, TCS school security, and the Tifton Police Department (TPD).

Administrators searched the vehicle, where they seized the weapon and ammunition.

The student was removed from class and taken into custody by law enforcement.

The incident was handed over to the Tifton Police Department (TPD).
