Pearson mayor resigns months after arrest by GBI

PEARSON, Ga. – Pearson mayor Robert “Buster” Johnson resigned effective September 9th, according to city council.

Johnson was previously arrested by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) early this year in February 2025 for alleged fraudulent activity.

City Attorney Jerome Adams confirmed that Johnson submitted a letter of resignation to Pearson City Council on Tuesday.

Mayor Pro Tem Antonio Williams will serve as interim mayor according to a city councilman.

Now-former mayor Johnson was granted a $75,000 bond in March. He remains out on bond.
