Albany Technical College and Albany State University sign Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Associate of Sciences in General Studies Program
ALBANY, Ga. – Albany Technical College (ATC) and Albany State University (ASU) formalized a partnership designed to create new pathways for student success. Leaders from both institutions — Dr. Emmett Griswold, President of Albany Technical College; Lisa Harrell, Vice President of Academic Affairs at ATC; Dr. Robert Scott, President of Albany State University; and Dr. Rhonda Porter, Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs at ASU — signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the Associate of Science in General Studies program.
The agreement ensures that ATC students who successfully complete the designated coursework will have those credits fully transferable to ASU, minimizing loss of credit and duplication of coursework while streamlining the transition from technical college to university. This collaboration underscores both institutions’ commitment to improving access to higher education and fostering workforce development in Southwest Georgia.
Specifically, the MOU outlines a seamless transfer process for Albany Technical College students pursuing the Associate of Science in General Studies. Students who complete the agreed-upon courses with a grade of “C” or better will be able to transfer up to 60 credit hours directly into Albany State University’s bachelor’s degree programs. The agreement covers key areas such as English, mathematics, natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences, as well as electives and program specializations in fields like criminal justice, early childhood education, and business. This structured pathway ensures that students are well prepared academically and can continue their education without delay at ASU.
“This agreement represents a significant step forward in providing greater opportunities for our students,” said Dr. Griswold. “Through this partnership with Albany State University, we are creating a clear and efficient pathway for students to continue their education, achieve their goals, and positively impact the workforce in our region.”
“Albany State University is proud to collaborate with Albany Technical College in this important initiative,” said Dr. Scott. “This articulation agreement demonstrates our joint dedication to student success by reducing barriers to degree completion and fostering academic excellence for all learners.”
This MOU reinforces both institutions’ commitment to maintaining regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and supporting students with advising and counseling to make the most of this transfer opportunity.
