Body of 39-year-old woman found inside abandoned residence in Cordele; GBI investigating

CORDELE, Ga. – At approximately 9:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, Crisp County Coroner Richard Wright and Deputy Coroner Willie Williams received a call and responded to the scene of an unidentified body discovered inside an abandoned residence at the intersection of West 20th Avenue and South 8th Street in Cordele.

UPDATE: As of early this afternoon, the body discovered has been identified as 39-year-old Lanatara Jones of Cordele.

The cause of death is undetermined. The body will be sent to GBI Crime Lab for further investigation.

The Cordele Police Department Detective Division is actively investigating a death that occurred in the 1000 block of South 8th Street.

This morning, officers responded to an abandoned residence where a deceased female, identified as thirty-nine-year-old Lanatara Jones from Cordele was discovered. At this time, the cause of death has not been determined.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was requested to assist our Detectives with processing the scene and gathering evidence.

The family of Ms. Jones has been notified, and the Cordele Police Department extends our deepest condolences to them during this difficult time.

As this is an active investigation, no further details are available at this time. Updates will be provided as information becomes available.
