South Georgia Weather Authority Forecast: August 13, 2025

Storm coverage turns more isolated in nature Thursday afternoon, but slightly better rain chances returns along with seasonably hot temperatures through the weekend. Heat index “feels like” climbs to 100°-105°+

In the tropics, Tropical Storm Erin has strengthened slightly, but is still forecast to become a Hurricane in the next day or so, then Major Hurricane by the weekend as it is stirred in general westward motion on southern periphery of the sub-tropical Bermuda high pressure ridge. The preponderance of evidence from both deterministic and ensemble models shows a re-curve of Erin out to sea as it finds a weakness in the ridge and travels in the path of least resistance, however the spread in both model output sets remain quite large which is why there there is a greater than normal uncertainty about what impacts Erin may bring to portions of the Bahamas, the east coast of the United States, and Bermuda. The risk of dangerous surf and rip currents across the Western Atlantic is increasing next week. Stay tuned. A tropical wave near Belize will cross the Yucatán Peninsula into the Bay of Campeche. Some development of this system is possible after it emerges across the southwestern Gulf beginning on Thursday while the system moves to the west-northwest or northwest at 10 to 15 mph.
