Gov. Kemp suspends Camilla mayor from office effective immediately

ATLANTA, Ga. – Governor Brian Kemp has signed an executive order July 17 suspending Kelvin Owens, mayor of Camilla, of his office effective immediately.

Owens was indicted on May 28, 2025 was indicted for charges of one count of Interference with Elections and two counts of Conspiracy to Commit Election Fraud.

A certified copy of the indictment was transmitted to the Governor pursuant to Code Section 45-5-6 (b) and received on June 2, 2025.

“On July 15, 2025, the review commission found that the indictment of Mr. Owens does relate to and adversely affect the administration of the Office of the Mayor of Camilla such that the rights and interests of the public are adversely affected thereby, and recommended that Mr. Owens be suspended from office pursuant to the provisions of Code Section 45-5-6.”

“Mr. Kelvin M. Owens is hereby suspended from office immediately and without further action pending the final disposition of the case or until the expiration of his term of office, whichever occurs first, as provided by Code Section 45-5-6 (c). This 17th day of July 2025.”
