Sowega Council On Aging announces Summer Regional Senior Resource Fair & Georgia Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program in Camilla

CAMILLA, Ga. – Seniors and caregivers in Mitchell county, mark your calendars for Friday, July 11th. from 9 a.m. to noon, the City of Camilla is hosting a free Senior Resource Fair designed to support healthy aging and connect attendees with crucial community services.
The event features the Georgia Seniors Farmers Market Nutrition Program , which provides fresh fruits and vegetables to eligible participants, along with nutrition and health education.
You’ll also have access to local aging network providers, free giveaways, and helpful information for seniors and caregivers alike.
It’s all happening at the Camilla United Methodist Church, located at 39 South Harney Street.

The Sowega Council on Aging (SCOA) is partnering with the Southwest Georgia Health District to offer a free virtual nutrition education series this summer for older adults across the region. The Eating Smart Being Active Program will take place every Tuesday from June 24 through August 12, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., via Microsoft Teams.
This eight-week series, funded through the USDA Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), covers topics like healthy eating, simple cooking tips and ways to stay active, making it easier to live well at any age. Participants will enjoy practical, engaging lessons and the opportunity to connect with others who are focused on healthy living.
“At SCOA, we believe that healthy habits are key to maintaining independence and vitality as we age,” said Izzie Sadler, SCOA Executive Director. “This program provides easy, accessible tools that can make a real difference in daily life, and we’re thrilled to help bring it to older adults in the community.”
