Officer shot, suspect in custody after standoff at Albany apartment complex

ALBANY, Ga. – A suspect is now in custody after shooting an Albany police officer in the arm while responding to an altercation incident between two men at Mt. Zion Garden Apartments on Slater King Drive.

The suspect led a standoff for several hours with officers on the scene from around 5:30 p.m. up until 11 p.m.

A woman and two children were inside the home and were released along with an officer after police negotiations with the suspect.

Officers did not return gunfire and the occupants were unharmed.

Albany Police Chief Michael Persley says the officer is “responsive” after being transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries at this time.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) will be assisting with the investigation.
