Three arrested following traffic stop and vehicle search that leads to major drug bust and firearm seizure

DOUGHERTY Co., Ga. – A routine traffic stop conducted by the Dougherty County Police Department (DCPD) led to the discovery and seizure of a significant quantity of drugs, cash and a firearm on Monday evening.

At approximately 7 p.m. on April 21, Sgt. A. Battle initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 49 miles per hour in a 30 mph speed zone. Upon approaching the vehicle and speaking with its occupants, Sgt. Battle detected the strong odor of marijuana emitting from inside.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted, resulting in the recovery of the following contraband:

  • Two large bags of marijuana
  • Two digital scales (drug-related objects)
  • One firearm
  • 144 ecstasy pills
  • 18 hydrocodone pills
  • Three small bags of marijuana
  • Three packs of Schedule I substance (marijuana-infused gummies)
  • 28 individually packed forms of marijuana
  • More than $6,000 in cash
  • One large box containing two vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana.

“This traffic stop is a great example of proactive policing and the vigilance our officers demonstrate every day to keep our community safe,” said Dougherty County Police Chief Kenneth Johnson.

“The amount of illegal substances and the presence of a firearm pose a serious threat to public safety. I commend Sgt. Battle for his professionalism and commitment to removing dangerous drugs from our streets.”

The investigation is ongoing, and further charges may be pending. This case was turned over to the Albany-Dougherty Special Investigative Unit (SIU).

Multi-Subject Drug and Firearm Arrest Following Traffic Stop and Vehicle Search

A traffic stop conducted by Dougherty County Police led to a significant drug and firearm seizure involving multiple individuals and vehicles. The initial search of a silver Toyota Camry driven by Alexis Wright resulted in the recovery of:

  • Seven individually packaged bags of marijuana
  • Several digital scales
  • One Glock 19 handgun
  • A bottle containing 144 ecstasy pills
  • A bottle containing 18 hydrocodone pills
  • One large manufactured marijuana bag containing 28 individually packaged bags
  • Three packs of marijuana edibles
  • Five cellphones
  • A package containing two vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana

One of the passengers, Jacobe King, was found to have $6,363.17 in cash on his person.

Shortly after, a Dodge Charger that picked up Ethan Cooper was also searched. That vehicle contained:

  • 20.4 grams of marijuana
  • One digital scale
  • A vacuum-sealed bag of marijuana

The driver, Casey Hancock, was arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute (WID), Drug Related Objects, and Obstruction.

The following charges were filed:

  • Alexis Wright: Speeding, Marijuana WID, Trafficking Ecstasy, Schedule II WID, Possession of Drug Related Objects, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
  • Jacobe King: Marijuana WID, Trafficking Ecstasy, Schedule II WID, Possession of Drug Related Objects, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime
  • Ethan Cooper: Obstruction (Misdemeanor), Marijuana WID, Trafficking Ecstasy, Schedule II WID, Possession of Drug Related Objects, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime

The silver Toyota Camry was towed.

Total drugs recovered as part of this investigation:

  • Marijuana: 1,770 grams
  • Ecstasy: 144 pills
  • Hydrocodone: 18 pills

This operation demonstrates the department’s continued commitment to disrupting the distribution of illegal narcotics and enhancing public safety through active enforcement efforts.
