Turner Co. deputy shot in multi-county, multi-agency chase, suspect dead, GBI investigating
ASHBURN, Ga. – According to a press release from the Turner County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO), on today’s date around 2:00 AM, Cook County Sheriff’s Office began a pursuit heading North Bound entering into Turner County. Three Turner County deputies joined the pursuit continuing Northbound into Crisp County and proceeded to Dooly County. At around the 108 mile marker, a Turner County deputy initiated a PIT maneuver causing the suspect’s vehicle to come to rest against the guardrail.
While attempting to remove the suspect from the vehicle, she pulled a firearm, began firing and struck a deputy. All three Turner County deputies returned fire. The deputy was shot in the shoulder and base of the neck, but is expected to make a full recovery. The offender was pronounced dead on the scene.
GBI has been called to investigate.

Deputies involved were Lieutenant Bobby Caton, Deputy Baily Johnson, who was shot, and Chief Deputy Charles Dean.
