Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful hosts 18th annual “Many Uses of Water” Water Festival for third graders

ALBANY, Ga. – Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful (KADB) held its 18th annual “Many Uses of Water” Water Festival. This two-day event gave third graders a fun and interactive way to learn about every aspect of water, whether through hands-on activities or lessons from industry professionals.

Water plays a crucial role in our everyday lives, and teaching young students about its benefits and challenges can make a lasting impact.

From fishing and water conservation to sewer systems and even proper handwashing, the lessons covered a wide range of topics.

But… what made this two-day event stand out? The activities turned learning into a hands-on, exciting experience.

“Learning new things is fun already. But, they did games and stuff. And, interesting mind attention seeking slideshows. That were just really helpful and learning about water, pollution and how we can help. It’s really cool,” said Killian McKinney, 3rd grade, student.

Eight different stations, led by various companies, highlighted how water plays a vital role in their industries.

Students participated in experiments, played games, and watched videos that reinforced the lessons being taught.

“So, one of the main benefits is it a hands-on learning experience. Through engaging activities at each one of the stations, they get to put their hands on these models and ask questions in real time to get answers. So, I think one of the benefits for sure and by far is that their able to learn in real time and touch,” said Jwana Washington, Executive Director, Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful (KADB).

By making education both fun and interactive, organizers hope these lessons will stick with students long after the festival ends.
