“X” For Boys non-profit preparatory school’s lasting impact on Albany’s young men

ALBANY, Ga. – According to Store Space, Albany, Georgia ranks in the 8th percentile for safety, meaning 92% of cities in the U.S. are safer.

Growing up here can come with challenges, but one local program is working to change that.

“X for Boys, a nonprofit life preparatory school for boys, is dedicated to keeping young men on the right path by equipping them with valuable life skills and knowledge.

“I started “X for Boys program originally because there were no true juvenile rehab programs in the city of Albany that were going to help in a meaningful way. The children need more of a mindset type of program. Not something that’s just giving them something to do. Something that going to help them build character and help built better routines and better habits,” said King Randall, Founder, “X” for Boys.

Since founding “X” for Boys in 2019, King Randall has used social media to share the school’s mission, growing his following to over 600,000 across various platforms.

That exposure has brought in donations from around the world, helping expand the program’s impact right here in Albany.

‘I grew up here. And people always, I’m one of those people who love to prove people wrong. And, people have always said Albany has this black cloud over it. Albany’s never going to change and it won’t be this and that. A lot of negativity about Albany. So, I want to be that different thing for Albany. I feel it’s a point I have to prove.  I want to show that Albany can become a thriving city. That’s why I’m maneuvering myself in many different way. To be able to impact the city of Albany to actually change it,” said Randall.

The program teaches essential life skills, like car repair, home improvement, and more. These lessons not only help them grow but also give them a head start in life before adulthood.

“Life happens and what do you do when life punches you in the face. When you can have something to fall back on and I can go cut some hair, paint, fix some houses, weld, I can make things happen that way,” said Randall.
