APD Police Chief Persley urges drivers to “be patient, be kind, let the runners go by” during annual marathon

ALBANY, Ga. – This Saturday, March 1st is one of Albany’s biggest events of the year in the annual Combos® Marathon and Half Marathon.

And, runner safety is a top priority.

You can see the route for the full marathon on screen, that will take runners through major Albany streets throughout Saturday morning.

Albany Police Chief Michael Persley spoke on the marathon and while it won’t directly impact traffic, protecting marathon runners comes first.

“Understand, between the hours of 7 a.m. and potentially 2 p.m., there will be some disruption. So, if you see runners coming up and they stop the traffic, just be patient. Just be kind. Let the runners go by,” said Chief Michael Persley, Albany Police Department (APD).

The marathon starts at 7 a.m. Saturday morning, and there’s still time to register at the Albany Welcome Center.
