City of Albany to Delay Opening Friday

ALBANY, Ga. — On Friday, January 24, 2025, the City of Albany will reopen administrative offices at 11 a.m. to prevent staff from being on the road while we are still in freezing temperatures.

WARMING CENTER: On Friday, at 7 a.m., Albany Transit will move anybody needing a warming center to the Club at Thornton at 210 Thornton Drive. Thornton will be used as the primary warming center during the day on Friday. This will give the Transit Center a chance to get operations back and up and running. Anyone needing transportation back to the Transportation Center from Thornton will be given transportation at 6:30 p.m. Friday evening when the Transportation Center at 300 W. Oglethorpe Boulevard as a warming center overnight. Moving forward, the City will be operating the Transportation Center overnight as a warming center on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. At 7 a.m. on Saturday and Monday, the Transportation Center will be open for regular business. On Sunday, the Transportation Center will close at 7 a.m. and reopen at 6:30 p.m. as a warming center.

Due to building maintenance, Albany Utilities at 401 Pine Avenue will be closed on Friday. Beginning Monday, January 27, 2025, the drive-thru lanes will be open. The teller lines inside will also be available with limited access. However, customer service will be available by appointment only for anyone needing one-on-one assistance. If you need to make a Utility payment before Monday, you can pay online at albanyga.gov/utilitybill or one of the two outside drop boxes at 401 Pine Avenue.

Municipal Court’s Administrative Office at 240 Pine Avenue, Suite 150, will reopen on Friday at 11 a.m. For ticket information, you can visit the office when it reopens or visit paymyticket.us.

Albany Transit will begin running buses at 10:15 a.m. The Southwest Georgia Regional Airport Terminal and Airfield are open and operational. Delta is beginning to resume flights.

The Emergency Operations Center (EOC) will continue to operate virtually until 11 a.m. on Friday. For any weather-related questions or concerns, please call the EOC while it is open at (229) 302-1900.

Drivers should continue to use caution where ice and snow have not had a chance to melt and dissipate. These include areas where roads are often shaded and bridges. We still expect freezing temperatures overnight, and those areas could refreeze, making road conditions dangerous.
