Delta Sigma Theta and Omega Psi Phi Sock, Soup, and Blanket Drive in Worth Co. for MLK Day of Service
SYLVESTER, Ga. – In Sylvester, a special partnership between a local sorority and fraternity is making a big impact as they give back to the community.
For the past four years, Delta Sigma Theta and Omega Psi Phi have joined forces to bring vital resources to the Sylvester-Worth County community.
On what could have been a day of rest, members of both organizations chose instead to dedicate their time to making a meaningful difference, embodying the true spirit of service and unity.
“Today is our sorority’s day of service. We remember, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and one of the ways we do that, is through today’s giveaway with our soup sandwich clothing drive for the community of Worth county,” said Gail Solomon, member of Delta Sigma Theta, Inc.
“We take any and every opportunity that we can to give back. But, since this is Dr. King’s birthday, in the spirit of Dr. King we want to make it a day on and not a day off of service,” said Zachery Powell, Eta Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Chapter President.
These two organizations also hosted community drives in Albany and Cordele, emphasizing the power of collaboration to make a greater impact.
“We have to remember, we have to help somebody just as we would want to be helped. And, there is a strong need in the community. And, so, if we partnered together, there’s always a way for us to take care of the community,” said Solomon.
Inspired by the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther king Jr., Delta Sigma Theta and Omega Psi Phi are calling on individuals and organizations to seize the opportunity to give back.
Their message is a heartfelt reminder that small acts of service can create a ripple effect of hope and change in our communities.
“Not only days like this, but any time we are presented with an opportunity to be able to give back, I think is our duty. We all know and understand what Dr. King stood for. So, any time we are in a position that we are able to shine the gap between those who are less fortunate and those of inequality, I think it’s important, it’s imperative that we be able to do what we can to do that,” said Powell.
