Dougherty Co. Magistrate Judges Swearing-In Ceremony

ALBANY, Ga. – I am here at the Dougherty County Courthouse, where they just swore in three judges, two being reelected judges and one newly elected judge here in Dougherty County.

Judge Baxter C. Howell, one of the re-elected Magistrates, has served as a Dougherty County Magistrate since his appointment in 1991 and has held the position of Chief Magistrate since 1997.

Also re-elected is Judge Michael S. Meyer Von Bremen, an Albany native who began his tenure as a Dougherty county magistrate in 2019.

Joining them is newly elected Judge Karin Middleton, a University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill graduate who earned her law degree from Georgia State University College of Law in 1995.

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to serve the people of Dougherty county in this capacity. I’ve been in private practice for 29 years, and I’m looking forward to making the transition to public service. They can expect consistency and fairness from me always. And, I am here to help people during whatever difficult times they are having. And, hopefully get them on the right track, if that’s what they need from a criminal aspect and from a civil aspect. Just make sure that whatever issues they have are resolved fairly,” said Judge Karin Middleton, newly elected Judge.

Judge Karin Middleton is taking over for Judge Victoria Johnson, who was recently elected to serve as one of four Superior Court Judges in the Dougherty Judicial Circuit.
